Because parents tend to be the ones who are taking their children to the films therefore you need content for parents to watch such as adult humour so they enjoy it.

81% Of the Frozen Audience composed of families.

20% Of the audience were non-families (Thats $18 million in ticket sales)

Animated and young adult films offer a simple, pure form of escapism (Uses and Gratification theory)

There is no moral ambiguity or uncertain endings; good will prevail.

Blumler and Katz  - Uses and Gratifications

An audience wants to:

1) Be informed or educated
2) Identify with characters of the situation in the media environment
3) Simple environment
4) enhance social interaction
5) escape from the stresses of daily life

Madagascar -

Mainstream

8-20 Primary Secondary 30-50 (parents)

The uses and gratifications theory applies as younger audiences tend to want to identify with Alex the main character or Marty the zebra for example. Also older audiences use it as a form of escapism from stresses of daily life.
